Fugazi have retained their place in the hearts of many fans who view them as not only the best band in their genre, but as the best band of the decade. Perhaps one of the most important band's of its genre, post hardcore outfit Fugazi released one excellent album after another until their indefinite hiatus in 2001.

This list was originally going to be 10 tracks but that just wasn't enough so I decided to extend it out to the top 25. Robert Miles - Children Dream VersionI think everyone has heard this song and everyone knows that it is awesome. Rank 1 - AirwaveThis is such a great easy listening trance jam. As always Rank 1 has amazing string synths that bring you in emotionally. Cosmic Gate - Exploration of Space (Original mix)This one is a classic.
I love, as most people do, the melody in the middle of the song where it breaks down. It's awesome.
Heatbeat - Vergatron (Original Mix)This track is awesome for the hardcore part at 4:41. The first time I heard it I didn't even know what was going on.
You have this organ sound mixed with a dreamy piano mixed with a crazy synth melody. It's one of the most unique mixes of instruments to me and everything fits together perfectly. My favorite from the Heatbeat duo. Susana ft Jorn van Deynhoven - Never MineThis is an underrated track that has one of the coolest parts ever in a song. The only problem with this track is that it is on the short side and all the longer remixes don't have this same sound. Alex M.O.R.P.H.
Eternal FlameThis song has a beautiful piano with a great atmospheric vibe. Alex Morph always has some of the most emotional melodies. Ian Brown - F.E.A.R. Remix)I first heard this track at the end of a popular James Lavelle mix and I was blown away.
This song just builds and really moves you. Armin van Buuren presents Gaia - J'ai Envie De ToiThis guy just knows what he's doing.
A solid release all around. Tiesto - Elements of LifeThis is standard Tiesto: unique sounds, great beat, great melody, great atmosphere. This is just a solid track all around.
Orjan Nilsen - Legions (Original Mix)What an awesome melody this song has. Orjan Nilsen is certainly no stranger to writing uplifting trance and this is no exception.
This one always brings me up:) 15. Imphenzia - Spirit Within YouI discovered Imphenzia while browsing around Youtube one day and fell in love with his sound. Most of his tracks are more psytrance where they have that oldschool feel from the late 1990's, which I absolutely love. Rank 1 - SymfoRank 1's use of strings is breathtaking. I love the way this song sounds like an orchestra mixed with electronic music.
Paul Oakenfold - Southern Sun (Original Mix)This is my favorite Oakenfold song. The guy obviously knows a thing or two when it comes to electronic dance music. Armin Van Buuren - Nova ZemblaThis remix is just crazy.
I love the whole progression of this song. I love the square sounds and I love drill sounds.
And obviously the vocals and lead synth are amazing. M6 - Opus Sectrum (Original Mix)This is a fairly simple song that has such a great melody. This is one of those tracks that you can completely zone out to and just enter a different world. This track takes you away throughout the entirety of it.
Dash Berlin - WaitingDash Berlin is one of the best vocal trance artists there is. The vocals in this track are quite touching and uplifting. Tiesto - He's a pirateIf you want to talk films score remixes this is probably the best one ever.
Tiesto took an already awesome film score and just made it a thousand times better. I don't know how he did it but he did. 8.Andrew Rayel - Aeon of RevengeAndrew Rayel is a master with mixing piano with trance. I love the way this track progresses and then finally builds up into strong detuned synth leads.
This one has great energy. Paul Van Dyk - Let GoPaul Van Dyk has always been a favorite of mine and this is my favorite track of his. I think Let Go, and this mix in particular, just has the right rhythm and feel. This whole track flows together really smooth and the overall melody and vocals are uplifting.
Armin Van Buuren - MirageWhat makes Mirage so appealing to me is the diversity of instruments being used. It starts off with nice atmospheric vocals and slowly builds to a trancey synth and then later climaxes with metal guitar and drums. It's awesome to see metal and trance incorporated together so well:) 5. Alex M.O.R.P.H. Walk The EdgeAlex M.O.R.P.H.
Is a trance genius. I love the way this song has 3 main stages. It starts out and builds up to a nice pad with the main melody. It then breaks completely down into a super emotional string, vocal session. It then slowly works its way back into the crux of the song where you get the lead synth and full percussion. This song is brilliant! Andrew Rayel - 550 (Senta Aether Mix)This is the first track I heard by Andrew Rayel and it is still my favorite of his.
![Techno Techno](/uploads/1/2/5/4/125429629/602119421.png)
I think this is Andrew Rayel at his best. I love how the track uses the same melody throughout most of the song and shifts from synth to piano back to synth and then just builds up strong with the percussion. This track is great to work out to. Armin Van Buuren - Tuvan (Original Mix)I remember this track as being one of the most listened to tracks while I was writing my book a few years back.
This track is just so uplifting and so powerful. Of all of Armin Van Buuren's tracks this would have to be my favorite - the melody and the energy is just amazing. I love the way it slowly builds and builds before finally taking off at 2:54. The way this melody transforms and takes you through an experience is just brilliant. 2.5 Kelly Andrew - Beyond The Stars (Emotional Mix)This is one of the newer awesome trance songs I have discovered (hence the number 2.5).
I think it belongs here on the list. Kelly Andrew is a badass composer and one of the most talented artists there is. If you want to talk about uplifting and emotional trance this is it. This song takes you on a journey like no other. Close your eyes, buckle up and let this song take you beyond the stars! He is highly, highly underrated. He has many more awesome trance and film songs.
2.25 Armin Van Buuren - Embrace. I recently discovered this new track and had to add it to this list. This is an immediate classic and 100% Armin Van Buuren. It has his signature sound. This track actually reminds me a lot of a mix between Mirage and Tuvan. It makes great use of instruments not normally used in trace, like a Spanish sounding trumpet, perfectly working together with synths tell a story.
This track, like so many of the best tracks, takes you on an actual journey through many different ups and down. The track builds up and then slows down and then builds up and slows down again. This is beautiful trance to me and it doesn't get better than this. Alex M.O.R.P.H. Sylvia Tosun - An Angel's Love (Vocal Mix)I first heard this track on A State of Trance's Top 20 of 2011.
The track was rated #2 for the year and when it hit the breakdown about 2 minutes in I was truly amazed. This is probably the most emotional trance track I have ever heard.
The warm string synths, the angelic vocals, the exhilarating lead, this track is just filled with emotion. If you've never heard this song before buckle up and prepare to be taken on a journey. Tiesto - Forever TodayEver since first hearing this song I have been taken away by it. Magical, soothing, emotional, heroic are all adjectives to describe the journey this masterpiece takes you on. To this day the song still touches me deep within and brings out a level of peace and joy. I love the way the song changes in and out of the emotional breakdowns and the progressive leads.
The song builds more and more until it finally starts its climax at 7:09. To this day I have not heard a trance song that moves me as much as this one.
Hats off to Tiesto for creating this masterpiece. Filed under:,.
Hey man, 1st of all i do respect your taste and it is good to have people who likes trance. I have seen your selection and though some of the tracks are really good, like Children, Airwave and even 550 Senta, i suggest you to listen more Trance, so you can broaden your criteria. Its a good list, but its very hard to do a short list after hearing so many good tracks. I have to mention:Ram - Ramsterdam (Jorn van Deynhoven Remix)Roger Shah & Signum - Healesville Sanctuary (Roger Shah Mix)Mac Zimms - L'Annonce de CouleursVeracocha - Carte Blanche (Original Mix)Paul Van Dyk - For An AngelDJ Tiesto - Adagio For StringsDelerium Feat. Sarah Mclachlan - Silence (Airscape Remix)and there is much more but is hard to this kind of lists. And one of my favorite ASOT is episode 421, so many great tracks in just that one episode.
The problem with trance is that there are too many great songs that were made and that is still made since this genre just keep on growing and I find it somewhat difficult to keep up with all the great ones that are released. That's why I welcome your list since I found a few songs I did not know even exist and I love them. I think you really did a neat job with the list.
It's understandable that one cannot put every trance song that's really good on a 25 list, there is simply way too many. Taking that into account, I want to thank you for a list I really enjoy and I'm also glad I found your website, it's great!. Check this guys. Ron van den buken timeless remix.
Temple one walk the line. Suncatcher lightshow. Calling your name thrillseekers remix. Mike van Fabio complicity.
Allen watt-Mike van Fabio velvet blue. James Dymond renegade. Ummet ozcan timewave zeo. Rapid eye circa forever Rapid eye remix. Ardi premonition. Mike van Fabio skyliner.
SoundLift revenge. Mike van Fabio Geert Huinink the Kingdom original Epic. Paul rigel reminiscence.Kiran m sajeev magical Journey. Rank one opus 17.
Paul miller plick plack. This got to be a (very) personal top all i see here is 'newstyle' trance after 1999, Trance was born in Germany not U.K. And for me all time tops are tracks like Jam & Spoon - Right in the night, Age of Love - Age of Love, Robert Miles - Children, Darude - Sandstorm (yes it's trance) Cosmic Gate - Exploration of Space, Paul Van Dyk - For An Angel, Dance 2 Trance - Power of American Natives, Ayla - Ayla and so on. BTW not all trance is uplifting. You have Hardtrance, Acid, Progressive, Goa, Psy, Vocal, Dream.
This list is fucking terrible. I mean terrible.
Wheres Cafe Del Mar? Why is Forever today the number 1 track on here? These tracks are all pretty mediocre or have been done before.
Compared to these, Airwave and Children should have been at the top of the list. Paul van Dyk has made way better tracks than 'Let Go'.
Words, For an Angel, and his remix of Love simulation are much better. No oliver lieb tracks are on here either, what a shame. Also, the fact that He's a pirate is on here instantly makes this list 1000x worse. Go do your homework before posting a shitty list like this. All these songs are in a good quality level but definitely there are YOUR FAVORITE SONGS and NOT the TOP 25 TRANCE OF ALL TIMES.
Because I can't imagine that there would be lists with BEST TRANCE SONGS without 'Age of Love-Jam & Spoon', 'Sandstorm-Darude', 'Bullet in the Gun-Planet Perfecto/Paul Oakenfold', 'Adagio For Strings-William Orbit', 'Saltwater-Chicane' and OF COURSE THE FIRST TRANCE / PSY TRANCE THAT CREATED EVER: 'Our Darkness- Anne Clark'. Finally the song 'Let Go-Paul Van Dyk' has nothing to do with Trance Music mate. Hi, like me I can tell you have listened to a LOT of trance, fair bit of variety in there. 1 - System F - Out of the blue my favourite of all time2 - Heavens Cry - I don't need this - Heard it in Sundissential and had to sing the beats loads of times to random people before I got the name of the song. Better than the more famous Heavens Cry Til tears do us apart which the Tidy Boys loved.
Where are they now, What does a hard house DJ d when his club closes without reason. Sunnie D's was always packed.Follow Me - Lange is a beautiful song revitalised by Kevin and Perry go large (dubious choice of film but I can't help watching it everytime I'm pissed and the wife has gone to bed) Soundtrack is also dubious except Luvstruck Spinners and this fine song. All of Tony De Vit songs - I'm playing burnin up as I type, the birth master of trance and hard house.
My friends mum was chucking out an old club music CD pack and there was a TDV tape from Nightingales. Amazing, I need to upload it so that everybody else can here it. Where can I do that?loads of others are just as wonderful and not numbered in my head. This thread led me down a youtube wormhole of even more music that I haven't heard before that should have appeared. Everybody has got a say in the comments Well done Sir!.Trance is wonderful, I always have a good night out at Trance events except the latest Slinky which was pay more, get through the queue that they just made up and I didn't feel the vibe of the clubbers of the late nineties early 00's but that is when I started clubbing (I never got to Passion Coalville, I chickened out of the trance night for a boshing Hard House.
I don't like the way music changes Trance and Hard House kind of fell by the wayside when Hardstlyle and breakbeats stuff come in. I prefer nice clean stuff. I can listen to my Vinyl all day and my children love it. It is timeless music which is unlike pop music, except the ones you like, but like everything it disappears unless you remember it and play it.
It instantly uplifts me in my car. 99th Floor Elevators - Hooked TDV mix. Play more Tony De Vit like Burnin up. Most music get's remixed and sold as new to the kids as though it's new (Tracy Chapman Fast Car) Once again.
Nice thread, can we have one for Hard House please.Watch 'Trade - The original all night bender on youtube. It was before my time but you get the atmosphere love, peace and an institution which has gone now.
I know we all grow up and have kids but I'd love to have what we had back. I'm off too Sundissential this Aug 27 and I hope that it has the same vibe and not like my Slink Night. I am not hopeful as there are so many ticket types on the website inc.
Queue Jumping which I believe is morally wrong.Good stuff!. This list is VERY personal to you and I can understand that but subjective 'best' lists are absolute garbage. You ranked the GREATEST trance track of all-time at #25?
How do I know that it's the greatest? EVERYONE ON THE PLANET knows Robert Miles' Children, usually from just the first piano keystroke!
It is BY FAR the best-selling, most famous and most iconic trance track in music history and you rank it at #25? That's nothing more than a token rank! In only ONE album, Robert Miles established himself as the King of Trance. Children, Fable, One and One and Fantasya ALL belong in a list of this type. Those were the tracks that attracted the masses to the genre and allowed it to grow to what it is.
I'm not taking anything away from Tiesto, Jam & Spoon or Armin van Buren but even they would admit that without Dreamland, trance as a genre wouldn't be even 1/10th as big as it is today. Children and Fable should be #1 and #2 on ANY trance list, because it was those songs specifically were the biggest trance blockbuster tracks of all time. It's true that there are many incredible trance albums that were major forces in the establishment of trance as a standalone genre but none of them were even close to the juggernaut that was Dreamland.
